
Whilst undergoing hypnotherapy does not guarantee that you will not longer want to smoke, you have more chance of achieving that goal than with any other method available. At the very least, you should start to feel a lot less stressed, which is a common reason for many people smoking in the first place. So, do not expect miracles, but know that it has worked for lots of people in the past. If it worked for them, why not you too? What hypnosis really is, is a concentrated form of relaxation, which focuses your mind on a particular problem or issue. Normally, there is so much going on in your mind, so many thoughts and ideas competing for your attention, that you lose track of them and do not see them through to their conclusion. There is immense power in the mind, especially the subconscious mind, and hypnotherapy lets you unleash it to achieve whatever you want to. Your subconscious mind is a sponge waiting to absorb whatever you give it. It does not recognize the distinction between reality and imagination. Therefore, if you can get past the locked gates of your conscious mind to your subconscious mind, you can feed the subconscious “imagined reality.” So, if you are able to imagine yourself as a non-smoker, your subconscious mind is going to accept that as reality. Using specific imagery and words, a hypnotherapist will slowly guide you into the depths of your subconscious mind. They will make suggestions to you that will lead to you thinking of yourself as a non-smoker. You can achieve a similar effect using relevant CDs and DVDs, but having one on one sessions with a hypnotherapist will increase the speed of your progress.
